Welcome to Screen Door Pearl District, an inviting southern haven nestled in the heart of Portland at 1131 NW Couch St. This lively eatery brings a taste of Cajun and Creole cuisine to life, perfectly tailored for breakfast and brunch enthusiasts. Known for its generous portions and vibrant atmosphere, Screen Door promises a dining experience that goes beyond just a meal—it's a celebration of flavors.
As you step inside, you’re enveloped by a charming Southern vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. The decor is both chic and cozy, making it an ideal spot to gather with friends or enjoy a relaxed meal at the bar. And, oh, the food! Each dish is crafted with care, showcasing classic Southern comfort food that is both hearty and rich in flavor.
The highlight of their breakfast menu is undoubtedly the Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits. Picture five jumbo shrimp sautéed in a signature tomato-garlic shrimp sauce, artfully draped over creamy cheddar grits, topped with smoky bacon, a side of two over-medium eggs, and a buttery buttermilk biscuit. At $26.40, it’s a testament to the saying, “you get what you pay for.”
If you lean towards something fried, the Chicken & Biscuits is a mouthwatering choice. A crispy fried chicken breast smothered in rich country pork sausage gravy or a delightful vegetarian mushroom gravy, served alongside breakfast potatoes and a buttermilk biscuit, brings comfort in every bite.
Vegetarian options are not overlooked either. The Squash & Brussels Scramble is a standout, featuring a delightful medley of delicata squash, roasted Brussels sprouts, kale, gruyère cheese, and a sprinkle of brown butter sage breadcrumbs. Paired with a homemade biscuit, this dish is an inviting twist on traditional breakfast fare, priced at a worthy $18.70.
Then there's the Bananas Foster French Toast, a crowd-pleaser that delights with its perfectly cooked toast, luscious bananas, and silky whipped cream—a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. Customers rave about their breakfast potatoes, calling them the best they've ever had, crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside.
Guests are often left in admiration of the welcoming staff and the clean, bustling atmosphere. It’s no wonder that many patrons find themselves returning to this hotspot time and again. With a promise of flavor, comfort, and an exceptional dining experience, Screen Door Pearl District is more than just another brunch spot in Portland; it’s a culinary retreat where every visit leaves you craving more.

I was here on a 8 hour business tax write off trip to buy every electronic possible but this was the only place I wanted to eat at. 1st time at this pear location.... This shhhh was either no brunch spots hit this hard in the SF Bay Area or I just never want breakfast as bad as I want this place. I sat at the bar, the place is nice inside, the bartender was dope. I don't know but this place serves the best breakfast in the United States lmao

Very busy, even on a Monday around the lunch hour. Also, very loud. Cute space, love the southern feel. The food, very big, heavy portions. I had the cajun scramble. It was pretty good. Needed some salt. The breakfast potatoes and homemade biscuit were delicious. I did order their homemade eggnog and it wasn't for me. My partner liked it. My partner had the shrimp and grits. He enjoyed it, again large portion so we had some leftovers. Overall, not bad. We had tried eating here before, and finally got to try it. We weren't disappointed... but stuffed. Would recommend if you're in the area. Definitely do dine it! We will be back to try the other food.

Had a great experience at Screen Door (Pearl District)! Made a reservation (highly recommend doing that), and everything went smoothly. The vibe is laid-back but lively. Ordered the $24 chicken tender plate and the $26 fried chicken dinner. Both were worth it! The portions are generous, and the flavors are on point. Service was quick, staff were super friendly, and the bathrooms were clean (always a plus!). Street parking is available, but depending on the time, it might take a few minutes to find a spot. Overall, solid spot for fried chicken and Southern comfort food.

This is hands down one of my favorite brunch spots in Portland. Their Bananas Foster French Toast is absolutely divine. The toast is perfectly cooked--not soggy at all--while still bursting with flavor. The bananas and rich sauce are pure heaven, and the whipped cream is silky smooth and perfectly creamy. I always pair it with their breakfast potatoes, which might just be the best I've ever had. They're flawlessly crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. I've admittedly fallen into the habit of ordering the same thing every time, but with how incredible the entire menu looks, I know I need to branch out. If you're looking for a standout brunch spot, this is it!

Possibly the best chicken, biscuit, gravy concoction I've ever had. I chose the mushroom gravy. Absolutely delicious. Our server was personable and engaging. Stayed attentive to table maintenance and drink refills. The restaurant is warm and inviting. Everyone was very nice. Can't wait to return.

I tried their fried chicken and biscuits and shared an order of praline bacon. I want to preface with this statement - I don't particularly think this is the best breakfast I've ever had and not sure I'd go out of my way to visit screen door BUT is it a staple and am I going to drop by every time I plan to go to powell's books too? For sure. I don't think you can go wrong with the food. However, since I'm not a huge sweets fan, I wouldn't order the praline bacon again. It was way too sweet for my liking. But I can see people falling in love with that candied bacon flavor. Is it worth the wait on the weekend? Maybe if you plan to shop next to the Anthropologie next door while you wait for that text.

Such a busy place for a weekday morning! We didn't have a reservation which the hostess asked us when we walked into the packed restaurant. Thinking we'd be turned away, we were pleasantly surprised when she sat us immediately. Our server was very experienced and kept things rolling at multiple tables. Our coffee and juices were kept up with and food arrived in a decent amount of time. I ordered the Fried Chicken and Biscuits; while my friend ordered the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were absolutely delicious, and a plentiful portion. The Fried Chicken dish was also delicious and HUGE, unfortunately a tad to salty for me. We'd definitely come back and try other dishes in our next visit to Portland.

Chicken fried steak so good I couldn't even take a picture! I would def come back to this place. Best breakfast in Portland!

Screen Door is our absolute favorite brunch place!! We bring all of our out-of-town guests here and they all enjoy it! There's always a wait time but we usually never wait longer than what we've been told. I'm always impressed at how quick we get seated. Honestly, anything you order will be delicious! The Sawmill Breakfast is usually a top choice for me, among others. This particular visit, I ordered the Blueberry Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and while I absolutely loved them(!) I wish there's something more with it. Some sort of savory dish, like eggs and bacon. I'd give them a 6/10. The Pulled Pork Benedicts were 10/10!!!!! It's probably going to be a usual soon! They typically come with potatoes but my partner decided to ask for fries instead and it was *chef's kiss*. If you enjoy breakfast and pulled pork, I strongly suggest trying this! Their staff is also super nice and extremely helpful when asking questions! I always enjoy going here and don't think there will be any brunch place that'll take its place any time soon!
